Title: Serious need of editing

Review: A big, baggy, rambling tale with many relations and subplots unexplained or unresolved, along with oddly inserted sex (non-graphic). He also wrote two pages of text when a paragraph would’ve been enough. The whole thing is need of serious editing; the writer has talent though…I’ll probably look for his later works. I understand this was his earlier work.

Title: Excellent, but very sad.

Review: One of my new favorite series. Ok, the writing can be a little wordy at time, and the characters spend a lot of time being sad, but it was amazing all the same. Most of all it was creative, which after reading a few hundred fantasy novels is of huge value to me. It was vast in scope. It packed a large emotional punch (if you don't like sad books move on). And it was well constructed. Another reviewer (who apparently only read the beginning) complained about plot holes, I'm the type who can barely watch movies because I pick them apart and I don't know what holes they are talking about.

Review: The Fionavar Tapestry is probably Kay's seminal work, although all of his books are excellent. The characters are delightfully complex and fully developed to the point of liking the flaws and resenting the advantages of both hero and nemesis. Kay has a very unique ability to make you unsure of who to root for, because in the end you realize that there are forces beyond the characters' control that force them to take the required particular actions. It is the only fantasy author I know where the depth of characters allows you to completely buy into the fantasy premise. His love interests are intricate, complicated and fully actualized, another rarity in the fantasy genre.

Review: Starts of odd with so many pov shifts, but the language, characterization and structure weaves a world rich in beauty and depth. Kay truly knows how to craft an exquisite sentence.

I said to friends on Facebook that I had been totally taken by true characters, had laughed and cried and just been in awe of their experiences ...
